Veg box sign ups open for 2025
Now that we have a new polytunnel and growing area, we’ve opened up spaces for more people to get regular, naturally-grown, local veg boxes from 21st June.
Our full share of the veg is a weekly veg box in summer/autumn and a fortnightly veg box in winter/spring. We also offer half-sized boxes or fortnightly year-round boxes. Read more about our veg boxes.
Joining Common Soil is more than just buying a veg box – you become a part of the farm for a year – receiving a share of the harvest. In summer/autumn there’s a bounty of veg that you can help yourself to (and herbs and flowers) – however much of whatever is abundant that you can eat/bottle/pickle/share with a neighbour. In the winter/spring, it’s a standard veg box as you’re part of the farm in the leaner times too. Receiving food in this way keeps you well connected to the seasons. You can also join seasonal events and a sense of community around the land (although it’s fine to quietly just collect veg as well).
My involvement in this project is a small action I can take towards helping to change the mess we’re in and living in line with my values (of connection and care). We know this planet is being damaged and intensive agriculture is a huge contributor to this, as well as the food miles. I also get a lot out of it myself – a strong feeling of community and belonging and I’ve been eating from this site for several years and have seen my health improve so much over this time.
I won’t pretend this kind of veg of is top for convenience. You’ll need to come and collect the veg from the farm, or share pick-up with another member who lives near you. It’s ready on a Wednesday at 4pm, but you can collect up until the weekend and ask me to put it in the fridge if the weather is warm. Although members seem to benefit from this part too:
“It makes me smile and feel better about the world every time I go to the site to collect my veg” (Current veg box member).
Try it out for a month to see if it’s doable for you before committing.
This is a small project – moving up to 70 regular veg boxes, with no ambition to get much bigger. This means we’re strong on offering personal connection, service and a chance to shape the project. It also means we really rely on support from the local community to be able to make it work – every person who signs up is important to the project, so please do support it if you can. Will you join us in this small action?
